The Father Prunes in Love
Pruning does sound painful, doesn’t it? And so I feel it’s vital to recollect who’s doing the pruning. Scripture says, “My Father is the vinedresser . . . I’m the vine; you’re the branches” (John 15:1, 5).
We’ve to do not forget that the vinedresser loves the vine, and the vinedresser loves the branches. His pruning isn’t just hacking away or lopping off issues carelessly, however he’s very cautious. He’s very exact, and he solely removes and takes away that which hinders bearing fruit. That’s what the textual content says.
This 7-week Bible research from the Gospel Coalition explores the query Who’s Jesus? by strolling by way of his 7 “I’m” statements within the Gospel of John.
And in reality, it says, “Each department in me that doesn’t bear fruit he takes away, and each department that does bear fruit he prunes, that it could bear extra fruit” (John 15:2). So we have to keep in mind who he’s pruning. He’s pruning those that are abiding in Christ.
The phrase abide really means “to stay” or “to endure.” And so there’s a way that as we abide in Christ, we belief the vine dresser sufficient to stay below his pruning. We belief that he’s doing work—that he’s taking issues away from us that aren’t good for us and that hinder the fruit of sanctification in our personal lives and in addition the issues that hinder the fruit of fine works in our lives. And so the Father, as a result of he’s a loving vine dresser, goes to fastidiously take these issues away. And so our job because the department is to abide, to stay, to belief. And there may be nice pleasure in that.
